The route & itinerary

Saturday 4th September

Arrival in Kitzbühel

Our adventure begins in the heart of the Austrian Alps, in the beautiful mountain town of Kitzbühel.

Guests having their cars professionally transported can fly into Munich Airport, where onward transfers can be arranged to Kitzbühel. Those driving independently can make their own way to our hotel, enjoying the freedom to arrive at their leisure.

This evening, we gather for the first time to celebrate the beginning of our journey. Over a relaxed welcome dinner, there will be time to meet fellow guests, talk cars and look ahead to an exceptional week of driving through the Austrian and Italian Alps.

Arrival in Kitzbühel

Sunday 5th September

Kitzbühel to the Dolomites

The first morning behind the wheel sets the tone for the adventure ahead. Leaving Kitzbühel behind, we journey south through the spectacular Austrian Alps, following beautifully engineered mountain roads and sweeping valleys towards the Italian border. The highlight of the day is the legendary Grossglockner High Alpine Road, one of Europe’s great driving experiences.

Rising through an extraordinary landscape of high peaks, glaciers and vast alpine panoramas, the road delivers a succession of flowing curves, dramatic climbs and breathtaking viewpoints.

From Austria, we continue south into Italy and enter the unmistakable landscape of the Dolomites. Our destination is our first luxury mountain retreat, where we will spend the next two nights immersed in the beauty and tranquillity of the mountains.

Tre Cime or a Day of Alpine Indulgence

After our first great driving day, today offers guests the freedom to experience the Dolomites at their own pace. Those wishing to enjoy a slower day can make full use of the superb facilities at our mountain hotel, with time to relax, unwind and enjoy the extraordinary surroundings.

For those eager to return to the road, an optional driving experience will take us through spectacular mountain scenery towards the magnificent Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Among the most recognisable peaks in the Dolomites, these three immense rock towers provide one of the defining landscapes of the region.

The journey itself is every bit as rewarding as the destination, with beautiful mountain roads, dramatic viewpoints and opportunities to pause and enjoy the scenery along the way.

Deeper into the Dolomites

Today we leave our first mountain retreat and journey deeper into the heart of the Dolomites. Our route takes us through an ever-changing landscape of high mountain passes, alpine villages and dramatic limestone peaks as we make our way towards our second resort.

The journey has been designed to be enjoyed rather than rushed, with time to pause for coffee, photography and a memorable lunch along the way.

By afternoon, we arrive at our luxury mountain resort, our home for the next three nights. With the cars parked and luggage taken care of, the remainder of the afternoon is yours to enjoy before dinner at the hotel this evening.

Wednesday 8th September

The Great Dolomite Passes

Today is dedicated to one of the great driving experiences in Europe. Our carefully curated loop brings together four of the Dolomites’ most celebrated roads: the Sella, Gardena, Pordoi and Giau mountain passes.

This is driving country at its finest. Roads rise through forests before emerging into vast open landscapes beneath towering limestone peaks. Perfectly engineered hairpins climb towards high mountain summits, while sweeping sections of road reveal extraordinary views across the surrounding valleys.

As evening approaches, another very special experience awaits. We have arranged an exceptional fine-dining dinner high on the mountain at over 2,000 metres above sea level. Surrounded by the extraordinary Dolomite landscape, we will enjoy an evening of outstanding cuisine and warm hospitality in a truly unforgettable setting high above the valleys below.

The Western Dolomites

Our final full day in the Dolomites takes us west to explore another side of this extraordinary mountain range. Away from some of the better-known passes, today’s route reveals quieter roads, beautiful alpine valleys and vast landscapes that reward every mile behind the wheel.

The centrepiece of the day will be a spectacular lunch stop, chosen as much for its setting as its cuisine. This is a day to linger over lunch, enjoy the surroundings and appreciate the slower rhythm of life in the mountains.

We return to our hotel during the afternoon, with the evening left free for guests to enjoy as they wish. Relax at the hotel, discover a local restaurant or simply enjoy a quiet evening before our final journey south.

Friday 10th September

The Dolomites to Lake Garda

Today we bid farewell to the high mountains and begin our journey south towards the warmth and elegance of Lake Garda.

The scenery transforms beautifully throughout the day. The jagged limestone peaks of the Dolomites gradually give way to rolling vineyards, historic towns and the unmistakably Italian landscape surrounding the lake.

Our carefully selected route will ensure there is plenty of enjoyable driving along the way, before we descend towards the south-western shores of Lake Garda and our final hotel.

This evening, we gather for our tour finale celebration dinner. With the lake as our backdrop, it is a chance to raise a glass to an exceptional week of driving, dining and adventure shared with new friends.

The Dolomites to Lake Garda

Saturday 11th September

Lake Garda & Farewell

Wake to the gentle atmosphere of Lake Garda and enjoy a final leisurely breakfast overlooking one of Italy’s most beautiful landscapes.

For guests having their cars professionally transported home, vehicle collection can be arranged from the hotel or Milan Malpensa Airport.

Those continuing their journey by car are free to depart at their leisure, perhaps extending their stay in Italy or beginning the journey home.

After eight days crossing the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites, driving some of Europe’s most spectacular roads and sharing exceptional experiences along the way, our Dolomiti & Alpine Grand Tour draws to a close on the shores of Lake Garda.

Everything you need to know

Do I have to drive as part of a group?
Not at all. Our tours are designed to give you the freedom to enjoy the roads at your own pace. You’ll be provided with detailed routes and navigation information, allowing you to drive independently or alongside other guests if you prefer. We’ll regroup at our overnight hotels throughout the tour.
What happens if my car breaks down?
For additional peace of mind, a dedicated mechanic will accompany the tour throughout the journey, providing expert support should any mechanical issues arise. While it isn’t possible to guarantee that every problem can be repaired at the roadside, our mechanic will be equipped to diagnose and resolve most common issues and help keep you moving. Should a more serious problem occur, the tour team will assist with arranging specialist repairs or recovery where required. We also recommend that guests have appropriate European breakdown cover in place.
What is the standard of roads and hotels?
This tour combines some of Europe’s most spectacular driving roads with carefully selected luxury hotels. Routes are researched and chosen for their scenery and driving enjoyment, although mountain roads naturally include hairpins, steep gradients and changing surfaces. Our hotels have been selected for their high standards of comfort, service, dining and facilities, providing the perfect place to relax after each day behind the wheel.
Will my car be suitable for the tour?
The tour is designed for classic, sports and modern classic cars that are well maintained and capable of sustained mountain driving. The route includes high-altitude passes, steep gradients and technical sections, so your car should be thoroughly prepared and serviced before departure. If you’re unsure about the suitability of your particular car, we’re always happy to discuss this with you before booking.
What information will I receive before the tour?
Before departure, you’ll receive comprehensive joining instructions and detailed information covering the itinerary, hotels, timings, driving routes and everything you need to prepare for the journey. Route and navigation information will also be provided, and guests will have access to the tour team throughout the experience.
Are the cars secure at the overnight hotels?
Vehicle security is an important consideration when selecting our hotels. We prioritise properties with suitable on-site, private or secure parking arrangements wherever possible. Full parking details for each hotel will be confirmed in the pre-tour information provided to guests.
Can you arrange car transport?
Yes. Professional vehicle transport can be arranged for guests who would prefer to fly to the start of the tour and have their car waiting for them. The cost of transport will depend on the number of cars travelling together, as shared transportation can significantly affect the price per vehicle. Once we know how many guests require this service, we will obtain a group quotation and confirm the cost before any arrangements are made.
