Everything you need to know

Do I need previous rally experience to take part?

No. The Planai-Classic is a precision regularity rally rather than an outright speed event. Driver and co-driver work together to follow the road book, maintain prescribed average speeds and complete timed challenges as accurately as possible. While experienced crews can compete seriously for the results, newcomers can also enjoy the challenge and learn as they go.

What cars are eligible for the Planai Classic?

The event is primarily open to road-registered historic cars built before 31 December 1976. Entries are subject to the organiser’s eligibility and selection criteria, and Classic Travelling can liaise with the organisers to confirm whether your car is suitable before you commit to the event.

Do I need to prepare my car for driving on snow and ice?

Your car will need to be properly prepared for genuine Alpine winter conditions. The exact requirements will depend on the vehicle and event regulations, but appropriate winter tyres and thorough mechanical preparation are essential. Classic Travelling can help advise on preparation and can also arrange vehicle transport to and from Austria if required. Rally competitors will have mechanic support during the event.

Can I join the trip without competing in the rally?

Absolutely. Our spectator experience is designed for partners, friends and enthusiasts who want to enjoy the event without competing. Guests stay in Schladming and benefit from airport transfers, breakfast and Classic Travelling’s in-resort transport service, including transfers to selected viewing locations throughout the rally. Access to the official evening events and hospitality can also be arranged.

Can I combine the Planai Classic with a skiing holiday?

Yes. Following the rally, we offer optional three- and six-night ski extensions in Schladming. The packages include hotel accommodation, breakfast, dinner each evening, in-resort transport and complimentary group ski guiding for competent skiers. It is a great way to combine the excitement of the rally with a few days exploring the Schladming-Dachstein ski region.
